Kolegram Illustrates Poster to Celebrate Immigrant Women
Kolegram was given the mandate by Status of Women Canada of designing and producing a theme poster and a leaflet promoting Women’s History Month in 2007, which celebrated immigrant women in Canada.
The objective of that event was to increase Canadians’ awareness of the contribution of immigrant women and of the importance of citizenship for women in Canada. This theme emphasized the 60th birthday of Canadian citizenship.
Kolegram’s creative team has relied on symbolism and metaphors to put the message across, by keeping the visual very simple. Unlike previous campaigns, which used photography, this year’s campaign relies solely on illustration.
With a blue sky in the background, we see a woman’s arm, adorned with nine colourful bracelets, reaching for a red maple leaf. Immigrant women and their diversity, symbolized by the arm and colourful bracelets, chose Canada represented by the iconic maple leaf.
The poster and leaflet were distributed across the country to schools, museums, government agencies and organizations, as well as to the private sector.
